I'm laughing. Very good, Jayme.
Why am I laughing? Maybe to keep from crying, but I don't think so. I'm still laughing.
The truth is so self evident, isn't it?
Is there a blood test to tell if you have a cold? Or just yucky symptoms that we medicate? - and in time get over. Perhaps, the white blood cell count increases to fight off the stuffy nose, achey body, ear pain, headache. I don't know.
Intense emotions and head colds.....hmmmmm.
Can you tell I have a cold right now? lol
My mental health was restored when I could express my emotions and not be diagnosed for having them.
Thanks for posting this from YOU TUBE.

these are important voices to listen to-- to balance the messages that we are bombarded with everywhere we go....

toxicity is an issue to discuss and another is fertility. did your doctor talk to you (anyone) about the effect that some psychotropic medications have on fertility? what does it mean if a large group of people in society are taking medications that render them temporarily infertile?

I have followed your blog as a kind of counter-balanced opinion on the mental health care front. I have always believed in getting both sides of the story. You are usually a voice of reason, even if it is a different POV than I am used to. But this video clip was tantamount to telling me there is no such thing as the problems I have because there is no blood test.

Based on this logic, there are an infinite number of things that simply do not exist because we don't have a test to show they are there. And doctors who treat AIDS patients are quacks because they don't cure their patients.

I'm very sorry. I used to find you a balance, a devil's advocate to keep me thinking and not just moving around where I'm told simply because I am told to do so.

I once had a doctor that told me if I just thought positive and prayed, that my depression would be gone. Another told me I was only depressed because I wanted to be depressed. Now you have put up a clip saying that mental illness doesn't exist because there isn't a test and there isn't a cure.

I'm sorry I have lost that force of balance. I see now that it isn't balanced at all. Tom Cruise jumping up and down on a couch... video clips from YouTube saying that money spent trying to help people regain their lives is a waste... there is no difference in my mind - except that I never valued Tom Cruise's opinion.

Too many people believe there is such a thing as mental illness. Too many people experience depression, hallucinations, and mania (if you must call it that) for me or anyone else to assert that nothing is going on. Something is going on, and at this point we call it mental illness. The cause is the big debate - and the arrogance of the psychiatric system that insist it is a chemical imbalance and call it a scientific fact is the fraud.

A very good friend of mine recently heard the dreaded news that her son has schizophrenia. She read everything she could about it and learned that it was a chemical imbalance and that her son must be on medication the rest of his llife. Her son would never recover. His life would be limited. She was so convinced by everything she read, that she now has no hope for her son, and she already assumes that she will take care of him for the rest of his life. She never read anything hopeful. There simply is no cure.

The "chemical imbalance" theory offers no hope for recovery, yet recovery happens all the time outside of psychiatry. Many people who fully recover leave the psychatric system entirely. Yet the studies being done today are to futher prove this "chemical imbalance" theory rather than to find other causes of mental illness. Who knows what they'd find if they changed directions for even a decade? But the drug companies fund these studies, and they love the chemical imbalance theory for obvious reasons.

This theory does so much damage, I am proud to dispute it. I am not disputing mental illness itself, nor is this video. (And I am in no way a scientologist nor will I ever be!) But the chemical imbalance theory needs to be exposed as a "theory" rather than a "fact" so that people like my friend, and especially her son, can have something else to hold on to. Like a shred of hope.

In the end, we may find a chemical imbalance, but until we do, let's not say it is a scientific fact, especially considering the damage being done. I know that many people benefit from this theory, but many others do not. They need to be recognized as well.

Is it irony when someone says they read a blog for a different POV and then when they find something disagreeable, discounts the entire objective and motives of the blogger? I'm impressed, Jayme, with your blog. Keep it up! Balance requires constant re-adjustment!! It would be easy to balance on a flat ground and the field of psychiatry, definitely is NOT static.
